Marauding Vikings conquer Red Devils

Maybe you’ve seen the TV show depicting the marauding, conquering Vikings, those war-machine men and women depicted as being intent on ruling the entire known world centuries ago.

In current-day Montana, we have the Charlo Vikings and Lady Vikings, warriors intent on ruling District 14C basketball right now.

For the second straight week, the Vikings invaded Sanders County and won a pair of important conference hoop battles, as the Charlo boys defeated the Noxon boys 62-52 and the Lady Vikings topped the Lady Red Devils 47-25.

The Vikings had pulled off a similar feat in Plains two weeks ago when they slayed the homestanding Horsemen and Trotters.

The Devil boys stayed close throughout in their game with Charlo but the Vikings won the fourth quarter 18-11 to finally pull away and win.

Logan Wood scored 18 points to lead the Red Devils, who fell to 6-1 with the loss, Levi Brubaker added 12, Alex Currie eight and Edison VanVleet and Jeriko Smith seven each.

Connor Koenig dropped in 18 points to pace Charlo, Nate Delaney added 16 and Landers Smith 10.

In the girls game, the Lady Vikings outscored the Devils 13-0 to completely take control and eventually move to the win.

Delaney Weltz scored a game-high 19 points to lead Noxon, Madison Koonce added five and Chelsea Vohs one.

Noxon hoop squads are now off until Jan. 3, when they will visit Hot Springs for another boy-girl doubleheader to open the 2019 portion of the schedule.
