Sometimes you have to fight for the right to win.
Coach Tyrell Allen’s Plains Horsemen fought past District 14C foes St. Regis and Hot Springs last week, topping the Tigers 57-49 in St. Regis Thursday and defeating Hot Springs 58-47 in Plains Friday.
Back in fighting form after the holidays, Allen and the Horsemen will continue their 14C conference basketball battles this week hosting Noxon Friday and visiting Two Eagle River in Pablo Saturday.
The Horsemen escaped the Tigers in St. Regis last week by blowing open a tight game in the fourth quarter, outscoring the home boys 24-16 in those final eight minutes to move to the win.
Derick Curry scored 18 points to lead the Horsemen, Jake Weyers added 11, Treydon Brouillette 10, Matt McCracken eight, Esvin Reyes four, and Tucker Foster and Nathan McNulty three apiece.
Ian Farris led St. Regis 12 points, Nicholas Day scored nine and Tanner Day seven.
Against Hot Springs, a 21-12 win of the third quarter gave the Horsemen the momentum they needed to pull away from their Sanders County rivals down the stretch.
Brouillette put in 19 points to lead Plains, Curry chipped in with 12, Weyers and McCracken added nine each, Reyes five, and Nathan McNulty and Nathan Feliksa two apiece.
