The Lady Hawks got after the Troy Trojans in a big way in Thompson Falls Friday, and ended up running the Trojans out of the gym 48-19 by the time it was over.
“Pressure defense was the key,” coach Doree Thilmony said. “We were able to force some turnovers and dictate the pace of play.”
Megan Baxter recorded yet another double double to lead the Hawks to the win, scoring 12 points and securing 12 rebounds, besides swatting away four Troy shot attempts and coming up with three steals, Jody Detlaff added 11 points and six rebounds, Elli Pardee chipped in eight points and grabbed two steals, Sarah Detlaff and Riley Wilson added four points each, and Maya Stiles, Faith Frields and Abbi Lane three apiece.
Wilson also grabbed nine rebounds and four steals, and Frields passed out five assists and came up with three steals.
Annie Day and Caitlyn Tallmadge scored seven points each for Troy.
In other action last week, the Lady Hawks traveled to Anaconda Saturday and fell 54-35 to the Lady Copperheads.
Baxter again went above and beyond in leading the Hawks, scoring 13 points, clearing 21 rebounds and blocking two shots, Jody Detlaff added 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals, Stiles four points, Pardee three, Sarah Detlaff and Frields two apiece and Wilson one.
Megan Reich and Arieona Mattson scored nine points each to lead a balanced Anaconda scoring attack.
The Hawks have two games with quality opponents this week, hosting Loyola of District 6B Thursday and visiting 7B-leading Eureka Friday. The red-hot Lady Lions have won seven straight games, including a 20-something point win over perennial power Bigfork a few weeks back.
“We look forward to both of these games,”Thilmony said. “Loyola is one of the better teams from the other side of the division and we would like to prove that we can play with Eureka.”
