Directors need actors for Paradise plays

If you like memorizing for fun, then Myra Lindborg has got something special for you. The Plains resident has 26 pages of lines of a one-act play and needs two more actors.

“There’s a lot of lines, but it’ll be fun,” said Lindborg, who is directing Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend, a black comedy written by Paul Elliott. It’s one of three one-act plays being put on by the Paradise Players at the Paradise Center April 5, 6 and 7. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. The first of the three plays begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. The other two plays follow. The ticket price covers all three plays, which are just over 30 minutes apiece. The event is sponsored by the Sanders County Arts Council, a nonprofit organization that brings an assortment of performing and visual arts to the county.

Michael Murray of Plains will direct The Trysting Place, a comedy set in the early 20th century written by Booth Tarkington. The play involves couples rendezvousing in the same place at the same time, although the situation becomes complicated in a humorous way. The play includes seven actors, including Murray, who plans to play only a small part. He said he wants to concentrate on directing. Murray has done several plays with the Paradise Players and directed during his college days and at times has done both at the same time. He’s also playing a bit part in Check Please, written by Jonathan Rand and directed by Kathleen Hubka of Thompson Falls.

“I wanted to do this play because there are parts to fit exactly some of the Paradise Players,” said Hubka, who is looking for additional actors for parts. “The play is so much fun and not very demanding of the cast,” said Hubka. She said it’s a fast-paced comedy that involves two people set up on blind dates and things become disastrous. Hubka, who served as a director and a teacher at a high school in Nebraska for some 40 years, said the play calls for between four and 14 actors. She’s specifically looking for a young boy for a part.

The three directors plan to start rehearsals in early March. Anyone interested in joining the cast could contact Lindborg at 826-2017 or Hubka at (402) 525-4488.
