Noxon and Plains track and field teams opened the season competing in the Eureka Invitational Saturday.
With Levi Brubaker winning two events and placing in three others, the Noxon boys scored 53 points to finish fourth in team scoring, while the Lady Devils scored 40 points and finished fifth on the other side of the meet.
For Plains, Kylee Altmiller won the javelin and placed fifth in the long jump to lead the Trotters to 46 points and fourth place in girls team scoring, while the Horsemen placed sixth in the boys meet with 22 points.
The reigning State C champion in the triple jump, Brubaker got of to hot start in his best event by bounding 43 feet, 3.5 inches to easily win in Eureka. The second place mark was almost five feet behind Brubaker’s winning attempt.
Brubaker also cleared 20 feet (going 20-1) in winning the long jump, in addition to placing third in the 400 meters, fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200.
Michael Antonich (fourth in the javelin, fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot put, 400 meters and 800 meters), Cade VanVleet (fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put) and Wyatt Lackner (fourth in the 300 meter hurdles) did the rest of the scoring for the Noxon boys.
For the Lady Devils, freshman Riley Richter won second place in the 400 meters and sixth in the 200, senior Delaney Weltz won second place in the shot put and javelin and fourth place in the discus, Elizabeth Lampshire strode to fourth place in the 1600 meters and to fifth in the 400 and 800, Sarah Clements placed sixth in the 800 and 1600, and Jaedyn Murray sixth in the shot put.
Altmiller threw the javelin 111 feet, 9 inches to win that event for the Plains Trotters, Rachel McNulty won second in the triple jump, sixth in the long jump and sixth in the 400, Audrey Brown ran to third in the 400 and threw her way to fourth in the javelin, Rachel Huenink took third in the discus and fifth in the javelin, and Deriayn Sheehan placed fifth in the discus.
Famous duck artist Malachi Paulsen won second place in the discus with a heave of 138 feet, 3 inches, Charlie Rehbein took third in the discus, Nathan McNulty won fourth place in the 400 meters and the Horsemen 1600 meter relay placed fourth in that event for the Plains boys.
Bigfork won both sides of the meet and teams from Libby, Eureka and Troy also competed Saturday in Eureka.
Plains and Noxon teams will now participate in the Dave Tripp Memorial in Polson Friday and the Thompson Falls Invitational next Tuesday. Plains teams will also attend the Ronan Invitational Saturday.
