School ballots in mail this week

Voters in the Noxon and Hot Springs school districts will receive ballots in the mail later this week.

Ballots were mailed Wednesday, according to the Sanders County Elections Office. In Hot Springs, three candidates have filed for the open three-year position: Michael Mueller, Crystal Graham and Julie White. Ricky Depoe was the only candidate to file for the one-year term in Hot Springs.

The Hot Springs School District is also seeking additional funding from voters through a general fund mill levy proposition. The proposed levy would generate an additional $30,000 per year for the district's general operations and maintenance.

If the levy passes, taxes on a home with a market value of $100,000 by approximately $19.94 per year, and by $38.94 per year on a home with a market value of $200,000.

In the Noxon School District, four school board positions are open. Two of the positions are for a Noxon trustee represeting Trout Creek, but only one person, Ben Freeman, filed for the two positions. Noxon also has two three-year positions open, and three candidates have filed. Voters will choose two of the three candidates — Tamra Weltz, Andrew Chaboya Cabaccang and Christopher Stough — on their ballots.

All of the ballots for the election are mailed. Bobbi Christenson with the Elections Office recommends that voters call the office at 827-6949 if they have not received a ballot by April 25 and confirm that one has been issued to them.

The election closes May 7. Ballots must be mailed back to the office, or dropped off by 8 p.m. that day. Ballots will not be accepted at the respective schools, Christenson said.
