In Class B golf, regular season tournaments don’t come much bigger than the Bigfork Invitational, which is annually played at the spectacular Eagle Bend golf course on the shores of beautiful Flathead Lake.
Proving to belong among the best prep golfers around, Ethan Brown, Megan Baxter and Nathan Ostwald all went a round on Eagle Bend and shot fine scores in representation of Thompson Falls Thursday.
Brown did it best for the Hawks, carding an 84 to win fifth place in boys scoring. Ostwald scored a 98 on his trip around Eagle Bend.
Also a key member of the Thompson Falls track and field team where she is a middle distance runner, Baxter posted a round of 109 to finish seventh individually with the girls.
Loyola players swept individual honors on both sides of the meet as Bucky Crippen fired a 70 to win the boys meet and Katie Fagg shot an 82 to top the girls field.
Loyola won the boys team race, earning the top four individual spots in the final standings, with a team score of 316, and Florence and Anaconda tied for second at 377. Bigfork won the girls title with a team score of 411, Loyola was second at 431 and Anaconda third at 458.
Thompson Falls does not have enough golfers to compete in team scoring this season.
Hawk golfers were set to host the Gary Thompson Invitational, formerly called the Thompson Falls Invitational, at River’s Bend Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Please see other story for more.
Coach Mike Bates and his Hawk linksters are also scheduled to play in the two-day Missoula Invitational Monday and Tuesday, playing one day at the Ranch Club and the other day at Canyon River.
