With Easter observances claiming some of the athletes for family-related activities for the weekend, reduced Sanders County squads still competed in the Seeley-Swan Invitational at Missoula County Public Schools Stadium in Missoula Saturday.
The Noxon boys team made the biggest splash of any county squad in Missoula as Levi Brubaker, Edison VanVleet and Rylan Weltz all performed well, leading the Red Devils to a surprising third place finish in the 16-team meet.
As he has all spring, Brubaker dominated the jumps, winning the triple jump with a best effort of 42-8 and claiming top honors in the long jump with a leap of 19-8.5. Brubaker also earned sixth place in the 100 meters.
VanVleet also had a great day, winning the 300 meter hurdles in 44.12 seconds and taking second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.14 seconds. VanVleet and Brubaker each ran a leg on Noxon’s 1600 meter relay, which placed sixth.
Weltz wound up and won third in the discus (120-10.5) and also placed sixth in the javelin (134-5).
Thompson Falls had one event winner on each side of the meet as Jody Detlaff won the girls high jump with a best effort of 5-0, which automatically qualifies her for the State B meet in the event, and Cody Burk won the boys discus with a spin and throw of 124-1. Detlaff also

won sixth in the discus for the Lady Hawks and Burk also won fourth place in the shot put for the Hawk boys.
Elsewhere around the track and field for the Lady Hawks, Josey Neesvig tracked down fourth place points in the 800 meters and fifth in the 1600, Maya Stiles won fifth place in the 100 meter hurdles, Kacey VanZanten took sixth place in the 300 hurdles and Riley Wilson tied for sixth in the high jump.
The Lady Hawks’ 1600 meter relay finished fifth in that race and the 400 quartet placed sixth.
Ben Beauchman ran to third place in the 800 meters, Isaac Buetow to fifth in the 300 meter hurdles and Cameron Lee sixth in the 400 to complete individual scoring for the Hawk boys. Both boys relays also won fourth place points in those races.
Plains junior Kylee Altmiller won second place (with a best mark of 109-2.5) and Rachel Huenink third (100-11) in the javelin for the Trotters’ only points in the meet. The Horsemen’s 400 meter relay team scored the Plains boys only team points in Missoula by placing fifth.
