Question of the Week

Do you think Montana should raise its minimum wage?

PAT INGRAHAM, Thompson Falls – “The minimum wage was never intended to be anything more than for an entry level job, like for high school graduates’ first job. It is for unskilled workers. By public petition, the legislators voted to change the minimum wage every year.”

ZETA MILES, Thompson Falls – “I think $8.50 is pretty good for a starting wage.”

KATHY HUTCHINGS, Thompson Falls – “No. minimum wage started to help young people. I think it was not meant for them to stay in that job forever. It was for them to learn skills and experience and go on to better things.”

DARIN McELMURRY, Thompson Falls – “Absolutely! I think it needs to be $10/hr. The cost of living is outrageous.

BOB RAYMENT, Thompson Falls – “No. When you increase, it has a negative effect. The minimum wage is for someone’s first job where they can learn the skills to move on. If you demand $25 an hour, then small businesses have to lay people off or cut back their employees.”

MARE THRAWER, Kalispell – “No. Then the businesses would have to charge more for their products and services. The cost of living would go up.”
