Another Blaine Blackstone column straight from the Trump administration’s government mouthpiece, Fox News. Mueller failed to find sufficient evidence to conclude that the Trump campaign “colluded” with Russia. As stated in the report, Mueller’s failure to find evidence may be due, in part, to President Trump’s obstruction of justice. Mueller lays out 11 examples of obstruction of justice for Congress to decide a course of action (Department of Justice policy is that it will not indict a sitting president). As legal analysts and law professors have stated, the signal from Robert Mueller is clear: he is passing the ball to Congress.
A little thought experiment. Take the Mueller Report. Replace the year 2016 with 2012. Change all occurrences of “Trump” to “Obama.” Take all the names of Trump campaign managers and associates that had ties with and met with Russian representatives, some indicted for lying to hide their connections, and replace those names with Obama campaign managers and associates. Now ask yourself this question: in this imaginary scenario, would the 2012 Republican House of Representatives have hesitated for even a moment to begin impeachment proceedings against Obama?
