Independently owned since 1905

Charlo favored in 14C meets

The District 14C track and field meet, set to be held in conjunction with the 13C meet at Missoula Big Sky Friday and Saturday, looks like it will be owned again by powerful Charlo teams on both sides.

The real team races this week will likely be to see who can win second place to the mighty Vikings and Lady Vikings.

“Charlo is the team to beat for the first place trophy,” Noxon coach Matt Havens said, “for both the boys and the girls this weekend.”

In proof of their prowess, the Lady Vikings impressively finished second in team scoring in the 20-team Kim Haines Invitational in Missoula last Saturday, and the Charlo boys scored a respectable 25 team points in the meet, which featured Class A, B and C teams.

Although Charlo, which has won multiple State C boys and girls team titles over the past few decades, will be the heavy favorites in Missoula this week, all 14C athletes will be trying to place in the top five in each event to earn individual berths into the Western C divisional meet, again in Missoula May 16-17.

Noxon has several athletes who will be expecting to move on.

“It’s that time of the season, we are ready for districts,” Havens said. “We want our kids to do their very best and to let the chips fall where they might fall.”
