Former Plains track and field star Carley VonHeeder won third place and Big Sky All-Conference honors in the javelin at the Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Dornblaser Field in Missoula last week.
A junior at Montana State, VonHeeder pitched the spear 151 feet, 4 inches on her very first attempt and then watched that mark stand up the rest of the way to earn her first Big Sky placing medal.
Several other Plains alumni women also competed in Missoula as Hailey Phillips ran the 400 meter hurdles for Montana State and Kayla Holmes threw the discus and shot put for the University of Montana.
Although not listed as competing last week, Kimberly Earhart was throwing the javelin for the University of Montana earlier this spring.
