Rain, rain, go away, the Over the Hill gang wants to play.
Over the Hill golfers teed off in the rain Monday for their weekly tour around River’s Bend, but it wasn’t long before that rain gave way to sunshine and brightened everyone’s day. It was almost like the golfing gods were smiling once again upon the friendly players of the Over the Hill gang.
Playing through in the clean fresh air produced by the showers, Gary Thompson and Lana Nolen went out and shot the low men’s and women’s gross rounds, while Jens Jantzen and Barb Wooden captured low net honors.
In other play of the day, Rusty Haggard was closest to the pin in 2 on No. 10 and closest to the pin off the tee on No. 14, Darrel “Torgy” Torgrimson chased the long putt down on No. 11, Thompson found the cup with long putt on No. 12, Wally Gibe put the long putt to bed on No. 13, Charlie Hooten went long with the best 70+ drive on No. 15, Dennis Gripp putted in the long one on No. 15, Liz Morkert earned long-putt honors on No. 16, Doug Deck docked the long putt on No. 17, John Pritzkau converted the long putt on No. 18, David Garr hit the long men’s drive on No. 18 and Wooden used her metal wood to hit the long ladies’ drive on No. 18.
Rick Kendall (No. 11), Jantzen and Larry Eddy (No. 12) and Gibe (No. 15) all made chip-in shots part of their rain-to-sunshine day.
Gibe received payment for his par on No. 11.
Twenty-nine Over the Hill golfers made their usual rounds around the Bend this week in spite of the rain.
