The town of Noxon is getting ready for their annual Fourth of July celebration, set for next Thursday. Joyce Hilt, who helps organize the event, said that the volunteers who organize the event have been doing it for so long, everyone just steps up and helps out. “It all comes together great,” she said.
The day will start with a veterans breakfast at the Noxon Senior Center. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Next up is the fun run, with 7:30 a.m. registration at the park and the runners taking off at 8 a.m. T-shirts will be available, but pre-registration is encouraged in order to receive a shirt. Contact Mary at 847-2314 to register for the run.
The annual parade starts at noon. This year’s theme is “Honor Our Everyday Heroes,” and entrants can line up at the school at 11:30 a.m. After the parade, the horseshoe tournament and bake walk start at 1 p.m., followed by turtle races at 2 p.m. The cornhole tournament and chicken poop bingo start at 4 p.m.
All day, there will be vendors and food booths at the Noxon Community Park. Hamburgers, nachos and ice cream cones are just some of the treats being offered. The pie baking contest, pie eating contest and games will continue throughout the day. A 50/50 raffle also will be ongoing throughout the day, with proceeds going toward maintenance of the park.
The finale of the Fourth is the fireworks show, slated to start at 10:45 p.m. Hilt said the community is planning a big display, and they are taking donations for the fireworks show. To donate, contact Hilt at 847-2455 or mail donations to her at P.O Box 183, Noxon, MT 59853.
Hilt encourages everyone to join Noxon residents for a fun-filled day. For more information on any of the Noxon Fourth of July events, contact Hilt or the Noxon General Store at 847-1700.
