Independently owned since 1905
The story continues for the tree featured in last week's Sanders County Ledger.
When the last cut was made, David Reedy of Internet Kitchen in Thompson Falls counted the rings. "While possibly being the largest in Thompson Falls," Reedy said of the Cottonwood tree, "it certainly wasn't one of the oldest. I did a careful ring count on the base of the tree and counted the core plus 68 rings and this year's growth. I put the tree at 70 years old; likely planted in 1950."
Reedy said the rings were very large and that at 10 years old, the tree had a diameter of about 2 feet.
