SponCon returns to Missoula
Spontaneous Construction returns Saturday, Sept. 14, to Missoula’s Home Resource. Designed to inspire a culture of re-use with a free, engaging community activity, Spontaneous Construction, of “SponCon,” has become an annual Missoula tradition for 15 years. Contest participants have seven hours to use their choice of Home ReSource materials to build the most beautiful, functional, and creative pieces they can dream up.
We provide a variety of enjoyable, inventive reuse activities, music, and access to local food vendors for contestants and spectators alike. The event draws teams of artists, DIYers and builders to create works of art and utility, as well as approximately 500 onlookers just there for the fun.
A panel of judges select the winning creations, which are taken to the banquet and benefit auction where friends and supporters come together to enjoy locally-sourced dinner and learn about the ways Home ReSource is helping build a more vibrant and sustainable Missoula. The live auction features the top SponCon creations and the silent auction offers supporters the opportunity to bid on select SponCon creations as well as local artwork, furniture, services, and unique experiences.
These events raise funds and awareness for Community Sustainability Programs, which are teaching job skills to Missoulians in need, promoting environmental stewardship for our youngest Zero Waste Ambassadors, and educating community members at all levels about how to reduce waste & build a vibrant and sustainable local economy. While the retail store is self-supporting, these programs require outside funding and would not be possible without generous community supporters.
