Independently owned since 1905
Ashley Devol-Haun has joined the staff at the MSU Sanders County Extension Office as administrative assistant. Devol-Haun took the position after the retirement of Shirley Kinkade, who held the position for 26 years. “Shirley had great notes and checklists and was super helpful,” making the transition easy for Devol-Haun, a 1999 graduate of Thompson Falls High School. She lives in Thompson Falls with her husband Jon and three children.
“We’re really excited to have her here,” county extension agent Juli Thurston said.
Devol-Haun said she is excited for a new challenge. She started the job July 22, in time to work with Kinkade through the Sanders County Fair. Haun said she never realized how much work goes into the fair for the staff, the parents and the 4-H members until she was involved in it. “Being new to the 4-H world, seeing the kids show off their projects and how hard they worked was awesome. There are kids who juggle sports and 4-H and I really admire them for taking that all on.”
Devol-Haun said she is available to help residents find resources in a variety of topics. In addition to coordinating the 4-H program, the Extension Office also provides information and resources on financial planning, community development, forestry, wildlife, integrated pest management, water quality, food and nutrition, gardening and other topics.
“I love working for the county,” Devol-Haun said. “Everyone is kind and supportive and they make you feel welcome.”
