Devils battle opponents, strep

As if contesting against other teams is not enough, another road block has been thrown in front of the Noxon Lady Red Devil volleyball team, and that road block is strep throat.

With several players afflicted with cases of strep, coach Teri Wilkinson said that she wasn’t sure if the Lady Devils would play in the Arlee Tournament Saturday as scheduled, or if they would stay home in the West End trying to get better.

“We are not sure what we are going to do at this point,” Wilkinson said Monday. “We sure would hate to spread our sickness across western Montana. We will have to see how it goes the rest of this week and make a decision.”

Just beginning to feel the effects of the strep invasion last week, the net Devils split matches, topping Troy 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 in Troy Thursday and falling 25-13, 25-23, 25-14 to Charlo in Noxon Saturday.

Wilkinson said Alivia Hill was unable to play against Charlo due to strep, and that her absence made a difference in how the match went.

The Lady Devils were set to play Troy again in Noxon Tuesday but results of that match were not available at press time.

Hill and Emily Brown each put down six kills in the win over Troy, Hill also had two blocks and Riley Richter hit nine blocks and 16 of Noxon’s 19 set assists in the match.

Richter hit seven assists and 14 digs in the match with Charlo, Arianna Wood also had 14 digs and Chelsea Vohs and Vanessa Horner hit three kills apiece.
