Upbeat.
One word that describes the kind of a day the Lady Hawk volleyball team enjoyed Saturday as they doubled up for road matches in Deer Lodge and Anaconda.
Swinging away freely and most importantly making great first passes, the Hawks batted down both teams on their home courts, knocking off the Lady Wardens 25-18, 25-19, 26-24 in Deer Lodge and then volleying past the Lady Copperheads 25-23, 25-23, 25-15 in Anaconda later in the day.
“It was upbeat, an incredible day for the Lady Hawks, we really, really played well,” coach Sandra Kazmierczak said. “We were putting that first pass right where it needed to be and finishing at the net, and our outside hitters really stepped up.”
One of those outside hitters, senior Brooke Bowlin floored 13 kills and stuff blocked two shots to lead the Hawks against Deer Lodge, Jody Detlaff chipped in with seven kills, four blocks and six digs, Scarlette Schwindt added seven Ks, a block and six digs, Belle Cooper was good for five kills and a block, and Riley Wilson had 25 set assists, three kills and a block.
Later Saturday in Anaconda, Schwindt crushed 14 kills, blocked a shot, hit five digs and served up two aces to lead the Hawks, Bowlin bonked nine kills and hit two aces, Cooper slammed seven more kills, Detlaff added four kills, five blocks and six digs, Elli Pardee had two kills, a block and eight set assists, and Wilson 22 assists, a kill, two blocks and four digs.
No statistics for Deer Lodge or Anaconda were available from Saturday’s matches.
After hosting Plains in a non-conference friendly Tuesday (results were not available at press time), the Lady Hawks will open District 7B conference play at Eureka Saturday. Another one of the better teams in the league, Eureka defeated Loyola and took two sets from Florence before falling to the powerful Falcons in Western B action last week.
“Eureka is a well-rounded team with a lot of experienced players,” Kazmierczak said. “We expect a very tough match with them Saturday.”
