Run, gun, win!

Lady Hawks dismantle Loggers 63-18

The Lady Hawks have a winning basketball tempo going and made their sweetest music yet this season in running to a 63-18 win over visiting Libby at TFHS Thursday.

Now 3-1 in non-conference play and overall, coach Chadd Laws and his Lady Hawks will likely enjoy a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year in reflecting back on what has happened so far this basketball season.

The Hawks' up-tempo attack has their opponents on their heels and has put Thompson Falls fans on their feet.

"We are excited, the girls are having a lot of fun out there," Laws said. "And that's the tempo we want to play at – we want to get layups – and so far it is working quite well."

Two of the biggest reasons the Hawk attack is working so well right now are sisters Megan and Ellie Baxter. A junior post player, Megan led the Hawks against Libby with 21 points while Ellie, a freshman point guard, scored another 18.

Although she missed most of the game after suffering a cut on her forehead and being whisked off to the emergency room by her mom to get sewed up, Jody Detlaff added six points, Elli Pardee, Riley Wilson, Faith Frields and Caity Alexander scored four each and Belle Cooper two.

Cooper pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, Ellie Baxter seven and Meagn Baxter six, Ellie Baxter had six assists and Frields and Megan Baxter three apiece, and Megan also blocked three Libby shot attempts.

Reagan Hanks did not score but added four rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.

The game with the Lady Loggers was never close as the Hawks raced out to a lead of 17-5 after one quarter and extended the advantage to 41-11 by halftime.

Olivia Smith scored six points to lead Libby and Julia Martineau and McKenzie Proffitt added four each.

The Lady Hawks' next game is another non-conference contest at Plains Jan. 3. Thompson Falls will open District 7B conference play hosting Troy Jan. 4.

Plains assistant coach Jaron Laws was scouting Thompson Falls as they played Libby last week. "That was a first for me," coach Laws said, "having my own son scouting my team out for the other guys."
