Rylan leads Noxon to wins

With senior Rylan Weltz leading the way, the Noxon Red Devil boys won a pair of basketball games last week, defeating Clark Fork, Idaho 62-49 in Clark Fork Tuesday and shooting past Two Eagle River 46-42 in Noxon Friday.

Noxon coach Ryan Weltz actually thought Clark Fork was the tougher of the two opponents last week.

“We played well against Clark Fork, they are a pretty good looking team,” he said. “But we did not play very well against Two Eagle. I’m not sure if it was nerves, excitement, adrenaline or what it was, but it will be nice to get that out of the way.”

One forceful constant in both Devil wins last week was the prolific play of Weltz’s son Rylan, who scored an amazing total of 42 points and cleared 13 rebounds against Clark Fork, and then went off for 29 points and 15 more rebounds against Two Eagle.

“Rylan played some of the best ball of his career last week,” coach Weltz said. “He kept his composure and showed some leadership, especially in the game with Clark Fork. And they had a hard time stopping him.”

Nate Cano and Michael Antonich added six points each in the win over the Wampus Cats, Brody Hill and Derreck Christianson three apiece and Avery Vogel two.

Cameron Garcia scored 26 points for Clark Fork and Josh Constantine 12.

Antonich scored nine points in the win over Two Eagle, Hill added five and Cano, Christianson and Vogel one apiece.

Michael Brown led the Eagles with 13 points and Anthony Charlo scored eight.

The Red Devils return to action Jan. 3 hosting St. Regis in a boy/girl doubleheader.
