Talk about finishing up on a high note.
The Thompson Falls Blue Hawk boys completed regular season play with a pair of impressive District 7B conference wins last week, running past visiting Mission 72-55 in Thompson Falls Thursday and upending Bigfork 54-48 in overtime in Bigfork Saturday.
The No. 3 seed in this week's District 7B tournament, the Hawks will visit No. 2 Eureka for a semifinal game Thursday at 7 p.m. Bigfork will host either Mission or Troy in the other semifinal that same night.
The four remaining teams will then gather in Libby Saturday for the District 7B tournament consolation and championship games. All four teams automatically qualify for the Western B divisional tournament in Hamilton Feb. 27-29.
Although coach Jake Mickelson would have liked to have seen his Hawks improve their tournament position with their big wins last week, he said the standings were already set by then anyway.
"We knew we were buried in the three spot and couldn't have improved on that last week," he said. "But it was good to see us play like that. We knew we had to beat Mission to not risk dropping down to fourth and took care of our business real well in that game."
Cody Burk tossed in 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Hawks, Sidney Akinde added 16 points and 10 rebounds, Nathan Schraeder 15 points and three assists, Ryan Schraeder nine points, four assists and four steals, Ethan Brown five points, six rebounds and three assists, Trey Fisher and Trevor Harris two points each and Jack Green one.
Jedi Christy led Mission with 16 points and Isaiah Nasewytewa added 12.
Against Bigfork, Akinde scored six of his team-high 16 points in overtime to lead the Hawks to the win, in addition to grabbing 12 rebounds and six steals, Nathan Schraeder scored 14 points and dished out three assists, Burk added 10 points and eight rebounds, Green eight points and six boards, and Fisher, Ryan Schraeder and Justin Morgan two apiece.
Morgan also had a team-high four assists in Bigfork.
