What better way to follow up a feel-good win, than with another feel-good win?
Hoping to keep the good feelings going after a come-from-behind 43-37 win over visiting Lincoln in Noxon Saturday, coach Cortney Vohs and her Lady Devils will face St. Regis Thursday at 6:15 in the first round of the District 14C tournament at the Ronan Event Center Thursday.
If the Devils defeat St. Regis, Noxon advances to the semifinals against top-seeded, undefeated Charlo at 6:15 Friday. Vohs thinks her Devils have a good chance of doing just that.
“We beat St. Regis twice during the regular season so we know what we are up against,” she said. “We have also been watching some film, hoping that helps us be better prepared.”
If the Devils can conjure up some more late-game magic like they did against Lincoln Saturday, that too may be of help. Noxon led by only one point heading into the fourth quarter but won the final eight minutes 16-11 to put things comfortably away.
Avery Burgess led Noxon to the win with 17 points, Chelsea Vohs added 11, Vanessa Horner nine, Emily brown four and Riley Richter two.
Sage Kamps led Lincoln with 11 points and Jonna Templeton and Alexis Cannon added eight each.
In other action last week, the Devils fell 52-9 to the Trotters in Plains Friday.
Vohs and Izzy Lampshire scored three points each in that game and Brown and Horner two apiece. See other story for Plains scoring.
Coach Vohs thinks that seeing the difference between the way her team played the two games last week is revealing.
“We are a different team when we play together and share the ball better,” she said. “We did not pass the ball very well against Plains and ended up paying for that. Against Lincoln it was a much better team effort all the way around. We need to keep playing that way.”
