Council's control frightening

I would like to address this sewer project that the city council and mayor have forced upon their residence.

A petition against the sewer system was presented to them with over 55% of the people affected by it. Yet they would not listen to citizens and could not give us a reason why we needed this system. We were promised they would listen if we got 50% of the people to sign. We did and they did not keep their word. They already went ahead with their plans.

We were never told that an environmental impact study had been made to prove we needed this sewer system. So why put one in?

Neither was it brought before the citizens of Thompson Falls for a vote. It will raise all of our taxes considerably. We should have a say if it is going to raise taxes.

This project is going to bring great financial hardship upon those impacted by this system. Our taxes will be raised hundreds of dollars a year not counting the monthly fee we now will be forced to pay. Our yards will be torn up, we are told whatever we want to save we have to move it. Excuse me, both my husband and I are in our mid 70’s. How are we going to move fruit trees, shrubs, sidewalks? And how are we going pay more taxes when our income is fixed? I believe half of the residents that are being forced to have this system put in are around 65. How are we seniors going to be able to pay for it? We were forced to sign a waiver, forced you say? Yes, we were told if you do not sign this and refuse to agree to all the terms, then you will be forced to hooked up to the sewer and now you will have to pay for the hook up and all that it entails.

You may be thinking this does not affect you; Phase 2 is for the rest of the hill to be put on city sewer, then Phase 3 the rest of the township.

Do you realize the sewage plant is higher than my house on 303 Wood Street? All sewage will be pumped uphill. What is going to happen to all those living below the system if there is a failure?

Our city council’s control is frightening. When the citizens lose their voice, it is time to replace the city council. It is so amazing that the council members that will that vote for this sewer system do not even live in the area of to be affected. How does that work?

Our water bills are so outrageous we cannot afford to have lawns in Thompson Falls any more. They have raised our water bill time and time again, then they cut back on the amount of water we can use for our monthly allowance. We cannot afford to raise a garden or landscape, our city has suffered. Drive around Thompson Falls in the summer. It is a sad sight, dead lawns everywhere. When my husband waters our yard, our water bill is will be over $100 a month. This was their improvement idea. How is it working for you?

If they have done that with the water system what are they going to do to the sewer system? They have not thought this through; who needs a sewer system? Surely not I nor my neighbors. So why put one in?

Our streets are a mess, they need major work, we have very little low-income housing, our city is plagued with meth and heroin. If our city council is concerned for their citizens let them come up with plan to better our community. not financially destroy us. It is time for change! Vote out. STOP this insanity. Get some people in there that will consider the welfare of the people and shut this sewer down.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Anderson,

Thompson Falls
