Independently owned since 1905
I would like to express my appreciation to Kathy Logan, Rebecca Murray, Kyle Revier, and Terri Henry for appearing in this week’s Ledger (Aug. 13) with masks in place; last week (Aug. 6), this example of community concern and personal responsibility was demonstrated by Bebe Townsend Kennedy and Patrick Walt.
Kudos to each of you for doing what has been shown to be an effective way to help slow the spread of the virus, especially as we see cases continue to increase in Sanders County. Thank you for showing your maturity, your willingness to be responsible, your common sense, and your concern for your fellow man.
I would also like to thank Jim Elliott for his article last week. Insightful and clear-headed as always, he addressed a matter of deep concern for many of us. Jim points out that standing by, while federal troops – with no identification, in unmarked vehicles, and carrying no valid credentials – are deployed and then allowed to overstep by arresting and harming peaceful protesters, the actual rule of law is damaged. The mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon neither asked for, gave permission for, nor felt the need for this “aid.” And it should be noted that the majority of the violence and looting didn’t occur until after the federal agents stepped in with their vigilante tactics.
Thanks, Jim, for trying to improve our community, our state and our county by making clear when things are not as they should be.
Cheri Seli,
Plains
