Smoke from wildfires in Washington, Oregon and California made its way to the Clark Fork Valley last weekend. The thick smoke obstructed the normal mountain views of the area, causing diminished air quality throughout the county. On Saturday, air quality in Thompson Falls was listed as hazardous. As of Tuesday afternoon, it had increased to unhealthy, which at that level the Environmental Protection Agency recommends people reduce prolonged or heavy exertion and consider taking more breaks during outdoor activities. Several sporting events for Sanders County teams were postponed due to the poor air quality.
