Horsemen corral Victor Pirates

It was a wet and rainy night in Plains.

The homestanding Horsemen added pain to the rain by pounding the visiting Victor Pirates 64-20 in Western Conference 8-Man football play Friday.

Now 2-1 in conference play, coach Eddie Fultz and his Horsemen will receive their sternest test yet of the season when they visit Previs Field in Thompson Falls Friday night for an intra-county encounter with the unbeaten (5-0), No. 4 ranked Blue Hawks. Fultz sees some similarities between the county rivals in the way they approach the game.

“Thompson Falls and us are the only teams in the league that favor a power-run formation; most teams are trying to run spread offenses,” Fultz said. “The keys for us will to be good up front on the line of scrimmage and to tackle well.”

Fultz said the Horsemen dominated the line of scrimmage against Victor. Running backs Gavin Regalado and Clayton Hill took turns gashing the Pirate defense with long runs. Quarterback Tristan Subatch turned in another strong game as well.

Although he did not have the stats available, Fultz said Regalado scored six touchdowns and gained upwards of 200 yards rushing in the game.

A halftime downpour added to the fun after play resumed in the third quarter. “No one could hang onto the ball for awhile there,” Fultz offered.

Due to various circumstances, the Horsemen are a painfully young team in 2020.

“We are a very young football team,” he said. “We only have three seniors, the majority of our kids are freshmen and sophomores. And the schedule has not been too good to us either.

“But we are learning as we go, getting better with every game we play,” he added.
