Clues sought in 2018 murder

Police continue investigation

This week marks two years since a man was shot to death near Dixon and authorities are asking for help as they continue to investigate. William Patrick Conko Camel was shot to death on Frank McClure Street in Agency, just north of Dixon, around 11 p.m. on October 5, 2018, the Sanders County Attorney’s office said in a press release. Law enforcement from the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Tribal Police, as well as the Montana Highway Patrol, were involved in the initial investigation.

According to Sanders County Attorney Naomi Leisz, the case remains an active an ongoing

homicide investigation. She stated that in this past July, Sanders County Sheriff’s Detective Martin Spring reached out to CSKT official to request assistance with the investigation. Leisz said that CSKT Chief of Police Craig Couture has pledge that the Tribal Police will help in any way they can. Sanders County official believe that working together with Tribal law enforcement will assist in the investigation.

“Sanders County and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes intend to pursue this investigation until the person or persons responsible for William Conko Camel’s murder are brought to justice,” the county attorney’s press release said.
