Volunteers needed to keep Huckleberry Festival going

The infamous Huckleberry Festival held annually in Trout Creek is in jeopardy of closing according to the Huckleberry, Inc. board of directors. Current vacancies within the board are for president and secretary positions and the show cannot go on without them.

“If no one steps up to fill the president and secretary vacancies, the current board decided it will dissolve Huckleberry, Inc. as a nonprofit, thereby also ending the Huckleberry Festival,” Huckleberry, Inc. said in a release after their last meeting, held in November.

Only four people attended the meeting, which was held to elect new officers. Of the four attendees, three already held positions on the board (vice president, treasurer, and member-at-large). A decision has been made by the board to “hold one more meeting in hopes of generating volunteers to fill current vacancies.”

The next meeting is scheduled for January 6, 202,1 at 6 p.m. at the Senior Center, located at 18 Larch Street in Trout Creek. In order for the festival to take place in 2021, the two volunteer positions must be filled at this meeting. Individuals interested in filling either of these roles should plan to attend this meeting.

“Should both of the vacant Huckleberry, Inc. positions be filled, the board could move forward with a 2021 Huckleberry Festival,” Huckleberry, Inc. said. “But the fate of future festivals depends on a volunteer to step up as Festival Chair,” as Elizabeth Haagenson recently resigned from her chair position. “The festival cannot happen without a festival chair,” the board continued.

“Continuing with Huckleberry, Inc. and the Huckleberry Festival is in the hands of the volunteers who are willing to step up,” the board directors explained. “Planning for the Huckleberry Festival kicks off early in January, so the time is now.”
