'21 New Year's Run will be virtually done

It will look a lot different this year but organizers are still planning on holding the 22nd edition of the New Year’s Day Fun Run and Walk.

There will some things old and some things new in the Fun Run as runners celebrate the christening of 2021 in traditional fashion.

As usual, the race will begin and end at the Elks Lodge east of Thompson Falls only runners will not be competing at the same time. Using a format perfected at the Huckleberry Run earlier this year, runners and walkers will be allowed to navigate the well-marked course from the Elks Lodge any time New Year’s Day.

The honor system will be used to record times and finishing places will be determined when everyone is done running and all the times are turned in.

Long-time race organizer and Clark Fork Valley Running Club president Sarah Naegeli will put together the finishers’ list. “It would be wonderful if participants shared their times, and pictures if they get some, with me,” she said.

As usual donations are welcome and help fund the CFVRC (which sponsors scholarships and other running/fitness events) and its myriad endeavors.

First held in 2000, the New Year’s Day Fun Run and Walk has developed a devout, dedicated following over the years.

Naegeli said t-shirts for the event will be made available and delivered at a later date.
