Devils make up for lost time

Making up for lost time, the Noxon Lady Red Devils started out their delayed basketball season with a pair of wins last week, taking down the Trotters 53-42 in Plains Friday, and defeating the Tigers 55-45 in St. Regis Saturday.

Now 2-0 in District 14C play and overall, the Lady Devils visit Hot Springs Friday and will host Clark Fork Saturday.

Noxon Coach Cortney Vohs was understandably happy with how her girls played last week.

“The girls did a fantastic job against Plains,” she said. “We attacked the boards and played strong defense.”

Returning from a shoulder injury that had hampered her in practice so far, Avery Burgess led Noxon to the win with 28 points, in addition to grabbing 11 rebounds and five steals.

Emily Brown added 11 points, six rebounds and three steals, Chelsea Vohs eight points and seven assists, Riley Richter four points and four steals and Vanessa Horner three points and five rebounds.

At St. Regis, Burgess was good for 22 points and 11 rebounds, Richter for eight points and eight rebounds, Jayden Murray and Brown scored eight points apiece, Chelsea Vohs seven and Horner two.

Baylee Pruitt scored 20 points to lead St. Regis.

Coach Vohs looks forward to both of Noxon’s games this week. “We are going to be ready for Hot Springs and Clark Fork,” she promised. “We feel like the district, beyond Charlo, is pretty wide open, and think we can contend this year.”
