With the deadline to file for special district elections passed, Sanders County school board candidates still have a month to file their intent for open positions.
Bobbi Christenson with the Sanders County Elections Office stated that write-in candidates have until March 1 to file for open special district positions. If there are no write-in candidates, all of the elections for 2021 can be canceled, as all positions are currently unopposed.
Local fire districts will elect trustees this year. John Morigeau was the only candidate to file for the open Dixon Rural Fire position, as was Michael Hardin in Heron, James Henry in the Plains/Paradise district and George Krueger in the Noxon Fire District. In Hot Springs, Bruce White and Cam Ulvick filed for the two open positions, and Thompson Falls Rural Fire District had Jimmy Veach and Phil Lewis apply for their two positions. No candidates filed for the two open positions in the Trout Creek Rural Fire District.
Peggy Winebrenner and Alan Shear have applied for the two open three-year terms with the Eastern Sanders County Hospital District, and Diane Mosley filed her intent for the open Noxon Heron Public Hospital District. The Heron Park District has two open positions, and Geri Lee was the only candidate to file to fill a four-year term. The Trout Creek Park board also had two open positions, with Todd Meagher and Theressa Miner applying for those.
School board candidates have until March 25 to file their oath of candidacy. No candidates have filed in Trout Creek, Dixon or Hot Springs.
In Noxon, Lars Swanson and Cassandra Hill will run for office, and Norris Bryan has filed for another three-year term. A one-year position for a Noxon School Board candidate within the Trout Creek Elementary district is open, with no candidates having yet filed.
The Plains School Board has two positions up for election this year. Monica Weedeman, Charles French and Brian Meaden have all filed with the county elections office for the three-year terms.
Thompson Falls also has two three-year terms open on their school board, with four candidates filing thus far. Sandra Muster, Lisa Ruen, Jeneese Baxter and Averie Boon have filed their intent with the county.
The school board elections will take place by mail-in ballot, with Election Day on Tuesday, May 4.
