PLAINS – Golfing gone wild at Wild Horse Plains.
Plains High School hosted its annual Plains Invitational at Wild Horse Plains Golf Course Friday and several teams from around western Montana competed. More importantly for the Plains golf team, coaches Lisa Brown and Don Stamm were able to get three of their girl golfers qualified for the State C tournament later this season.
For the record, Kade Pardee of Thompson Falls shot the day's low score of 78 to win the individual boys title, edging out JP Briley (81) of Florence, Colin Wade (82) of Bigfork, and Erik Casazza of Eureka (83) for the top spot.
Also from Thompson Falls, Tristan Subatch finished alone in sixth with an 86.
Eureka won the boys Class B varsity competition with a team-low total of 373, Bigfork was second at 381, followed by Thompson Falls (393), Loyola (402) and Florence (405).
Clark Fork won the Class C boys tourney with 271, Seeley-Swan shot 331 and Plains 374.
Kaylee Cole of Plains won the girls individual varsity title with an impressive round of 93, Megan Baxter of Thompson Falls was not far behind with a 97 for second, Kyla Bohne of Eureka carded 102 for third and Ellie Baxter of Thompson Falls shot 106 for fourth.
Plains' Kimmy Curry, one day after shooting a 120 at Trestle Creek to automatically qualify for the State C tournament, went 10 better Friday with a 110 to end up tied for seventh individually.
Teammate Grace Horton also hit the magic number Friday, shooting a 120 of her own to also qualify for the State C, meaning Plains will now have a scoring team (only three golfers are required in Class C scoring) of Cole, Curry and Horton for the season-ending event.
Bigfork won the girls Class B crown in Plains with a 490, Florence was second at 506 and Loyola third at 51.
The hometown Trotters brought the Class C title to Plains with a 323 and Seeley-Swan (331) was second. Tessa Williams was the other Trotter competing and she carded a 146.
Three Plains boys golfed in the Plains tourney. Nick Gumm shot 121, Drew Carey 126 and Brandt Snead 127.
There were also three other boys golfing for Thompson Falls, with Cael Thilmony carding a 110, Jesse Claridge 119 and Lucas Allday 164.
Thompson Falls was set to host the Gary Thompson Invitational (the Thompson Falls tourney that was renamed in the past and current coach's honor two years ago) Tuesday but results of that meet were not available at press time.
Plains and Thompson Falls golfers were scheduled to attend the Anaconda Invitational, to be played at the world-famous Old Works Golf Course designed by Jack Nicklaus, this Thursday in Deer Lodge County.
