Combined District 13C/14C track and field meet this week

Plains, Hot Springs and Noxon track and field teams will be in Missoula at the combined District 13C/14C meet Friday and Saturday hoping to earn trips back to Missoula the following week.

With the top five athletes in each event earning their way on to the Western C divisional meet May 21-22, the stakes will be high for those athletes hoping to still be competing in the coming weeks.

Several of Sanders County’s finest athletes made their presence felt in the final regular season meet of 2021 in the Kim L. Haines Memorial meet at MCPS Stadium Saturday.

From the Noxon Red Devils, junior Cade VanVleet enjoyed another outstanding day, winning second to Sanders County rival Cody Burk of Thompson Falls in the shot put (Burk recorded a best throw of 49-3.5 while VanVleet marked 48-10) and placing third in the discus, tying Burk at 137-1, but Burk was awarded second place based on other throws.

Also from Noxon, MacKenzie Morgan won third place in the girls 1600 meters in a fine time of 5:34.40.

Top-flight hurdler Kyle Lawson of Hot Springs won third in the boys 300 meter hurdles (43.95 seconds) and also placed sixth in the pole vault, marking 9-6 in his first meet of the season in the event.

With the Heat girls, Josie Uski won third place in the 300 meter hurdles in 54.16 seconds.
