Organizations are ready to have you
A couple of weeks ago, the Thompson Falls Chamber of Commerce hosted a volunteer nonprofit fair. We (I'm a board member for the Chamber) invited local nonprofit organizations to come to the event to connect with community members.
More than a dozen organizations came to the event, handing out literature and swag, selling raffle tickets, and even setting up a pen for some cute puppies neededing to be adopted. The organizations were eager to share their missions and plans for the future.
It was a busy weekend, and more organizations and volunteers showed up than community members. But that didn't dampen anyone's spirits and all said the event was a success. There were a few connections made and the nonprofits were able to network and learn about each other.
Each December, The Ledger publishes a list of community organizations. While most people think of reaching out and giving to others during the holidays, these organizations are always in need of donations of time, money and other services.
If everyone can give just a little bit, all of these organizations — ambulance crews, fire stations, pet shelters, educational groups and others — can thrive in our small communities.
We encourage you to remember than giving season isn't just around the holidays.
