Homesteader Days celebrates Hot Springs

The 71st Annual Homesteader Days Celebration will be lighting up the town of Hot Springs for a three-day event beginning Friday, June 11. The event draws in residents and visitors alike, as they are promised a full weekend of fun catered to the whole family.

Friday and Saturday, vendors featuring arts, crafts and food booths will line Main Street. The grand parade is set for noon Sunday and will feature Nadine Magera as its grand marshal.

Saturday, registration for the car show begins at 9 a.m. on Wall Street between Buck’s Grocery and Wall Street Place. Judging will be 3-4:40 p.m. Check-in for the Doubles Horseshoe Tournament starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Creekside. Tournament starts at 11 a.m and entry is $20 per team.

Live music will fill the streets throughout the weekend, including Outlaws and Lawmen, Wailin’ Aaron Jennings, Craig Barton, Barnaby Wilde and Great Scots Pipes and Drums. The annual street dance will begin at 9 p.m. Friday.

The senior center will open its doors at 11:30 a.m. Saturday welcoming people in for coffee and a chance to browse through their rummage sale.

The kiddy parade will take place once again on Main Street at noon. Each entry is $1 with judging taking place at 11:30 a.m. and prizes being awarded at 11:45 a.m. The rubber ducky race is set to begin at the same time.

LaRue Hot Springs Museum will open at noon both Saturday and Sunday, featuring their historic Hot Springs exhibits. The rodeo will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
