New Cats on the block

Superior defeats Plains in 8-Man season opener

PLAINS – Mountain Cats, Bobcats, whatever you want to call them, they can still play some pretty good 8-Man football.

The newly rechristened Superior Bobcats, who broke away from a cooperative with Alberton for sports this summer and are no longer considered the Clark Fork Mountain Cats, opened the season with a 66-8 win over the Plains Horsemen in Plains Friday.

Coach Jeff Schulz's Bobcast scored early and often against the Horsemen, who were playing their first game for new head coach Ryan Hart, building an insurmountable 52-8 lead by halftime and cruising in for the win from there.

Now 0-1 in Western 8-Man conference play, the Horsemen will hit the road for a game with Seeley-Swan Friday. The Blackhawks opened their campaign with a 26-8 win over Arlee last week.

Trailing 36-0 early in the second quarter last Friday, the Horsemen scored their only touchdown of the evening on a halfback option pass from freshman Darren Standeford to junior Garth Parker.Parker went up in a crowd and pulled down the pass, motoring 66 yards for the score after that.

Parker also ran in the two-point conversion to make the score 36-8, temporarily firing up the Plains fan base.

Superior was paced by Decker Milender, who scored six touchdowns, and Orion Plakke who threw for four more. Milender returned two interceptions for scores, caught two of the TD passes from Plakke and ran for two more touchdowns.

Lucas Kovalsky also caught scoring passes of 31 and 25 yards from Plakke.
