Defendant pleads not guilty to assault charge

Andre Levert pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of assault with a weapon Tuesday in 20th District Judicial Court. According to charging documents, on February 2 Levert reportedly struck a man with an object several times. Levert’s council argued for his release, but the request was denied. Instead, his bail will be reduced to $25,000 from $55,000 if he is able to provide the address of the residence where he will stay after release and the address of his employer. Levert’s trial has been set for March 7, 2022.

Leslie Butler appeared before Judge James Manley on Tuesday for a hearing on the merits of a possible probation violation by Butler for a case from 2013. Sanders County Attorney Naomi Leisz called Lori Thibodeau, the Probation and Parole supervisor for Lake and Sanders counties, as a witness. Thibodeau made several comments on Butler’s disinterest in treatment and his violations. Butler’s 12-year suspended sentence was revoked, and his sentencing has been set for October 12. Butler currently has pending felony charges in Sanders and other counties, including some involving drugs and drug use.

Michael Hicks appeared in court to change his plea to guilty, as per a plea agreement. Hicks is facing the felony charge of criminal distribution of dangerous drugs. According to charging documents, on May 18 law enforcement learned of Hicks’ alleged involvement in the distribution of drugs to a man in Hot Springs who overdosed. Hicks’ sentencing has been set for November 23.

Thomas Longmack appeared in court for parties to discuss a possible violation of his parole. He was sentenced prior to the charge of intimidation. During the hearing, Longmack admitted to holding a firearm His sentencing has been set for October 12.

Roger Trull of Thompson Falls, who is facing several charges stemming from a high-speed chase through Plains on September 3, came before Judge Manley Tuesday arguing for a bail modification with his attorney Kirk Krutilla. The hearing was continued. Trull previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.
