Being a part of history

In last week's Ledger, we celebrated the accomplishments of the 2021 8-Player Champion Thompson Falls Blue Hawks. I wrote about the community spirit and support, the stats of the game and interviewed players and coaches following. However, I forgot one important detail – the historical record.

When the Blue Hawks won the semifinal football game this year, I immediately went to the basement of The Ledger and pulled out the archives from 1974 and 1975 to read the stories from the previous state championship games. I looked at the rosters to see who was on the teams and who was still in the area that I could interview. I found several of those players were still here. I stood in the back of The Ledger with Bob Brown for almost an hour and talked about those games, the players and what it was like to be part of the community at that historical moment.

In my coverage following the game last week, I missed the key historical point of listing who was on the 2021 state championship team. So below is the entire roster of the Blue Hawks this year. While I hope we don't wait another 46 years for a state championship, I hope that when the day does come, we look back at this record of who played in the game and we are able to interview some of these gentlemen and talk to them about the memories of winning a state championship.

Again, congratulations to the 2021 Blue Hawks. It sure was an honor to be on this journey with you.

Thanks to Nils Rosdahl, a Thompson Falls alum and my old journalism instructor from North Idaho College, for suggesting I run the roster this week.
