Beating the winter blues

The other day while driving to Plains, I noticed that familiar gray ceiling. After a beautiful sunny Sunday with not a cloud in the sky, a blanket of clouds hanging over the valley on Monday. If that doesn't give you a case of the Mondays, I don't know what will.

You can feel that cabin fever settling in with the inversion in the sky. Most everyone is tried of the snow, the endless ice we've seen, and ready for sunnier days. It's hard to stay positive when it's cold and messy outside when all you really want to do is curl up on the couch with a blanket and a cute puppy.

The winter blues don't have to be such a downer, however. I decided to use this week to catch up on some much-needed inside projects that I know I won't want to do in spring or summer. I'm trying to get organized for the upcoming tax season and work on my resolution of staying organized all year long and not just when something is due.

The dullness of winter, I have to remember, will bring renewal and growth in the spring. Instead of counting down the days until longer periods of sunshine, we need to try and be the sunshine. — Annie Wooden
