Hawks host mixer ahead of Kato

Thompson Falls faced off against four other teams Friday, before hosting the Ted Kato Memorial tournament on Saturday. The mixer gave wrestlers a chance to get some time on the mat without any worries about team placements. Two mats ran at the same time and wrestlers from all schools cycled through same weight matchups. Only conference matchups would see personal scores changed for the season.

Thompson Falls wrestling coach Mike Thilmony highlighted a few matchups of the night. One was Thompson Falls' Westin Brown against Nate Wadlow from Cascade in the 126-weight class. Thilmony explained it as a big divisional matchup, but unfortunately Brown lost.

Another match highlighted by Thilmony was Max Hannum in the 170-pound weight class against Miguel Perez. Friday night's match was back and forth the entire time, according to the coach. Hannum took the win for the night, but during the tournament over the weekend Perez won against Hannum. Both wrestlers ended the weekend one win and one loss against each other. According to Thilmony, Friday was the first time they met this year.

According to Thilmony, who commented on his wrestler's style, he explained, "We like to score a lot of points," and be the first to attack. "When the whistle blows, we're after you."
