Caring for the health of residents

Clark Fork Valley Hospital has done an outstanding job with their drive-through COVID testing site. The process was quick, efficient, and courteous. They deserve kudos for putting forth the time and expense to keep us safe. Now that the drive-through testing is no longer available, people who are experiencing symptoms of COVID can order free home tests at COVIDtests.gov, or by calling 1-800-232-0233. Another option is to call the health department and a free home test will be brought to your vehicle at the courthouse if you are not feeling well; otherwise, just drop by. (406-827-6931, 6925 or 6901.)

If your test is positive, follow the directions with your test to report the result. In the meantime, isolate (stay at home) at least five days after the start of symptoms, and if you must leave home during the next five days, be sure to wear a mask and maintain physical distancing. You shed the virus two days before you show symptoms. From that time, think of your close contacts and advise them to quarantine for at least five days after the last contact with you, and to test at day five if possible, then wear a mask for an additional five days. Boosted individuals do not need to quarantine but should mask for 10 days. The latest recommendations can be found at CDC.gov or on the written information given with the tests.

Kudos to Clark Fork Valley Hospital and Sanders County Health Department for their tremendous job and countless hours spent caring for the health of Sanders County residents during this pandemic.
