The 2021-2022 basketball season for the Plains Horsemen and Trotters ended at the District 7B tournament in Bigfork last weekend, but both teams put up a fight until the very end.
The Horsemen opened the district tournament against No. 3 Eureka on Thursday, losing 73-26. That set up a game against Thompson Falls for Plains on Saturday morning in the consolation bracket. Plains scored first, but the Blue Hawks came back and took the lead, up 17-7 after the first quarter. Thompson Falls’ lead jumped to 41-10 at halftime and they kept the lead until the 64-27 final score. The Horsemen fought hard, getting some steals in the fourth quarter and keeping the Hawks on their toes.
It was a similar fate for the Trotters, who met No. 4-seed Mission in the first round of the district tournament. Mission came out strong with a 46-12 lead by halftime and finished the game up 60-24. The Trotters moved to the consolation bracket, where they played Thompson Falls in the first game of the day on Saturday. It was Trotters’ coach Dani Crowe’s birthday on Saturday and she was looking for a win to advance to the consolation finals.
The Blue Hawks took an early lead, up 17-4 after the first quarter. The Plains girls were more aggressive in the second quarter, making some great steals against the Hawks. The Trotters couldn’t keep up and the Hawks won 69-29.
