Our Viewpoint

We all could use a little March Madness

There was a recent interview with a basketball player. He was asked if the upcoming game was stressful. His response was that it wasn't stressful, it's fun. He noted that stressful is not having enough food on your plate. Stressful is not being able to pay your electricity bill. That comment put things into perspective.

We're all very lucky that we have this thing called basketball. When you turn on the news these days, you see a lot of death, war, destruction and other terrible things going on in the world. But for nearly three weeks each spring, we get to watch all the good things that give you hope. We get excited when our team makes it. The Cinderella stories give us hope. We get excited when the underdog wins in a huge upset.

Everyone needs a little March Madness. Yes, it's stressful for these players coaches, and even for those of you hoping you'll win with your bracket predictions. But at the end of the day, March Madness is about feel-good stories. Even the stories of defeat mean victory for another team. At the end of the day, it's just basketball. It's serious in the moment, but it's not the end of the world. For the most part, it's good to come out of this "madness."

Enjoy March Madness and the effort that these teams put into the tournament. At the end of the day, remember that it's just a game.
