TF projects moving forward

Projects for the City of Thompson Falls are moving forward, Mayor Mark Sheets explained at Monday's City Council meeting. Sheets detailed logging projects in the city aimed at removing hazard trees on city property. He said the city is being proactive and reviewing the tree study completed by the Department of Natural Resources. Many of the trees on the removal list in the tree study are among those being removed at locations including near the community center and city pool, as well ad near the old pump house.

Phases three and four of the city's wastewater project are now fully funded. Sheets stated that the final phases of connecting city properties to the sewer system will go out to bid next year. The entire project is projected to be completed in 2024. Work will also resume soon on the city's project to replace aging water lines.

The Thompson Falls City Pool is slated to open in in June, and the city will use funding from the CARES Act for improvements including ADA-accessible steps for the pool. The city is also planning to uses CARES Act funds to purchase new tasers for police officers, to put a new roof on City Hall, to upgrade the policy policy manual and to purchase a utility vehicle for use in maintaining the city parks.

Sheets also mentioned that the city is working to get the bathroom at Wild Goose Landing updated and open, and will convert part of the bathroom building into storage.

In other action, the council approved Pat Ingraham as a new library board member and added June 19 as a holiday for city employees, keeping in line with federally-approved holidays.
