Trout Creek Community Improvement Association (TCCIA) held their eighth annual Easter Eggstravaganza Saturday afternoon at the Trout Creek Community Park. Nearly 200 children registered for this year's event. "We had an amazing turnout for such cold weather," said Liz Stender with TCCIA. This year more than 6,000 eggs were filled with over 7,200 pieces of candy. "We had close to 12 individuals that helped stuff the Easter eggs and about 12 volunteers for the day of the event," Stender said.
The cupcake walk returned this year with great success. Around 200 cupcakes were made and donated by community members. "The cupcake walk was really fun this year," said volunteer Sandy Green. "The kids enjoyed it, we had a full crowd the entire time and it's nice for the kids to have something to do while they wait for the hunt."
The Trout Creek Community Park field was sectioned into five areas for different age ranges. At registration, each child was entered into a drawing for one of 10 bikes that were raffled off. The Easter bunny was there for photos and to help count down the start of the egg hunt.
Wyatt Heintz, age 4, traveled from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with his parents for the weekend. Visiting his grandparents in Thompson Falls, Heintz got to partake in the egg hunt. While he didn't keep track of how many eggs he found, Heintz was more than happy with the candy and surprises he found inside.
"I think the event went smoothly," Stender said. "My favorite part this year was not only seeing the happy reactions of the kiddos who won the bikes and helmets, but the reaction of the kids when they walked up to register and saw the Easter bunny. The excitement and interactions were so heartwarming. I once again cannot say enough about our community of volunteers that show up and donate time and money to make events like this one such a huge success and to continue such great traditions for our community."
