2 killed in Hwy 28 crash

Two people were killed in a vehicle accident in Lonepine Monday morning.

According to Montana Highway Patrol, an SUV failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Lonepine Road and Highway 28 as it was traveling westbound on Lonepine Road and approaching the highway. A semi was headed northbound on Highway 28 and T-boned the SUV. The crash occurred at 9:20 a.m. Monday.

The occupants of the SUV, a 31-year-old female and a female child from Lonepine, were confirmed deceased at the scene, according to MHP. The driver of the semi, a 39-year-old male from Washington, was not injured, according to the report. No further details were available. The crash remains under investigation.

According to MHP, the deaths represent the 42nd and 43rd fatalities on Montana roads in 2022. In 2021, there were 240 fatalities, up 12.68% from 2021.
