District track meets were held across the state last week with Noxon and Hot Springs competing in 14C and Plains and Thompson Falls in 7B. Athletes needed to place in the top six to advance to Divisionals and for some it was the end of the season. "Several athletes ended their season yesterday but went out fighting," Blue Hawk Coach Trenna Ferris said. "I would like to recognize the following athletes for their dedication and efforts this season: Braedon Ferris, Ethan Geisbusch, Will Hawkins, Levi Myers, Briar Palmer, Lance Palmer, Dan Schrier, Alek Sweeden and Alex Olesen."
Meanwhile, Hot Springs coach Andrew Leichtnam talked about how important it is to train properly in order to succeed and extend the season. "You have to be putting in the hours all year, not just during track season." For some, the social aspect is just as important as the physical. I asked Lauryn Aldridge, sophomore from Hot Springs, what she enjoyed about track. "I like how track is an individual sport. It frees you to focus on your own goal. And I like going to track meets. I love track meets."
The Western B and C Divisional Meet will be held in Frenchtown on May 20 and 21.
