Clark Fork cleanup planned

The Eastern Sanders County Conservation District (ESCCD) is helping conserve the local waterways by re-implementing their River Clean-Up, an annual event now making headway again. The cleanup will be Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sanders County Fairgrounds in Plains.

“Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join anytime during the event,” said ESCCD Administrator Emily Baker. “Volunteers will need to check in at the fairgrounds and sign a liability waiver before spreading out along the riverbanks to help clean up.”

Water and garbage bags will be provided but ESCCD asks volunteers to bring their own gloves and other protective measures. “Republic Services is generously donating a dumpster that will be at the fairgrounds parking lot for all the trash to be collected,” Baker said. “After the cleanup, volunteers are invited to a barbecue that will be hosted by the district’s board of supervisors.”

ESCCD is asking community members who are interested in volunteering to register online by September 3, in order to get a head count for the barbecue after the event.

Volunteers can register for the event at easternsanderscd.org. For more information or questions, contact Baker at [email protected] or (406) 830-8687.
