Noxon beats Hot Springs in 4

The Red Devils won and home and lost on the road last week at the volleyball season trails on. Noxon welcomed Hot Springs in a cross-county battle last Tuesday, beating the Savage Heat in four sets.

Noxon went up to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set before Hot Springs sprang back to win 26-24. The teams traded leads in that first round, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Noxon came back to win three straight, however, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-16.

Hot Springs led throughout the second set, though Noxon came back from a deficit to take the lead 17-14 before the teams again traded leads, tying the set at 21 before Red Devil Emily Brown delivered the final kill to win 25-22. The third set was again a close start for the Sanders County teams before Noxon slowly pulled away from the Savage Heat and ended the set 25-19, up 2-1 against Hot Springs.

In the final set of the evening, the teams were tied at two apiece, then five each before Noxon rallied for eight points with Mia Vogel serving. Hot Springs wasn't giving up that easy, as freshman Kara Christensen took the serve and the Savage Heat scored three straight points before Noxon's final push to seal the win.

Brown led the Red Devils in their home win with 15 kills, eight blocks, three digs and three aces. Vobel added 11 kills, 10 assists, six digs and seven aces, while Maygan Swanson hit five kills, two blocks and three aces. Aubrey Erwin served eight aces and had three kills for Noxon. On the other side of the net, Brooke Jackson had 13 set assists for the Savage Heat, Christensen added three aces and two blocks, junior Lauryn Aldridge had two blocks and senior Josie Uski led the team in digs with 12.

Noxon then traveled to Superior on Thursday, losing in five sets. The Red Devils took the first set 25-18 before Superior came back 25-17 to tie it up. Noxon came back with force to win 25-15 before Superior won two straight, 25-15, 15-12. Brown and Maygan Swanson had 13 kills apiece for Noxon. Brown also added five aces, 13 set assists and one block. Vogel led the team in digs with four.

This week, Noxon was set to host Troy on Tuesday and will travel to St. Regis on Thursday, while Hot Springs welcomes Two Eagle River on Thursday and Charlo on Friday.
